D Line Closes 3 Wilshire Stations Oct. 23 to Nov. 2: Shuttles

Three Wilshire Boulevard stations on Metro’s D Line will close at 2 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and reopen at 4 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. The stations are Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega, and the closure covers about nine days.

Metro says the stop is for maintenance work at Wilshire/La Brea. The agency will also use the time to connect systems and finish other tasks needed for the next D Line extension toward Beverly Hills and Century City. This article is general information for riders, as of Oct. 21, 2026. For the broader picture of getting around the city, see our Los Angeles and California guide.

How trains will run

During the closure, D Line trains will run only between Union Station and Wilshire/Western. Riders heading farther west will have to leave the train at Wilshire/Western and switch to a shuttle.

The shuttle is called Line 855. It will connect Wilshire/Western with all three closed stations and run every 10 minutes, according to Metro. Metro Bus Lines 20 and 720 will also keep their normal service along Wilshire Boulevard, so they are a second option for the same trip.

What stays open in the Miracle Mile

Metro says regular activities at Wilshire/Fairfax will continue even though the station is closed. These include the Tuesday farmers market, the Bake to the Future event on Oct. 25 and the LATINAfest at Metro: Día de los Muertos celebration on Halloween.

The Metro Art Culture Pass also stays valid. Riders can reach participating Miracle Mile museums on either the Line 855 shuttle or Lines 20 and 720. Pass perks run through April 30, 2027.

Other service changes to know

Separately, the B and D Lines are running every 20 minutes on select weekends, a schedule that began Oct. 10-11. Metro says that weekend work installs communications systems and performs track maintenance, and that no work happens on holiday weekends. Because the dates vary, check alerts before you leave.

Plan extra time on weekdays too. A shuttle transfer at Wilshire/Western adds a step, so a trip that normally needs no transfer will take longer. Metro says it will post updates in the Metro app, at alerts.metro.net, on social media and at D Line stations.

Why this matters for the extension

The D Line extension is a multi-year project that is building a subway farther west along Wilshire. Section 1 opened May 8, 2026, according to public project records. Work on the later sections continues underground in Beverly Hills and Century City. Metro has not given a firm opening date for those sections in the materials reviewed here, so the closure is best read as one step in that longer build rather than a sign of a particular opening date.

That said, closures like this one are how Metro schedules work that cannot happen while trains carry passengers. Riders can find the full announcement on Metro’s The Source blog, and project background on the D Line extension project page.
