Caltrans is working nightly on Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass from Monday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 23. Crews close lanes and several ramps between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., and the speed limit drops to 55 mph on selected stretches. Tonight, Oct. 21, and the next two nights are still ahead.
The agency is rehabilitating the pavement and installing K-rail concrete barriers. Schedules can change with weather and operations. This is general information as of Oct. 21, 2026. More road and transit updates are in our Los Angeles and California guide.
Northbound 405
Up to four lanes will close between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive. The Getty Center Drive on-ramp and off-ramp will be closed. The off-ramp to Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive will also be closed.
Southbound 405
Up to four lanes will close between U.S. 101 and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive. Closed ramps include the Sepulveda Boulevard on- and off-ramps and the Ventura Boulevard on- and off-ramps. The Burbank Boulevard on-ramp is also closed.
Both the northbound and southbound U.S. 101 connectors to the southbound 405 are blocked during work hours. So drivers coming from the Valley on the 101 will need another route during those hours.
Planning a night trip
Caltrans did not name detour routes in the notices reviewed here and advises drivers to allow extra time or use alternate routes. Real-time conditions are on Caltrans QuickMap, and more notices are on the Caltrans District 7 news page.
Other overnight work is also under way this week. Our report on overnight closures on the 101 and 91 lists those. Late-shift workers, airport travelers and anyone heading to the Getty Center after dark should check ramps before leaving, because a closed ramp can add several miles.
After Friday morning, lanes should reopen for the weekend unless Caltrans posts a new schedule. Check the agency’s page for any extension of the paving work.
