Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

This policy explains what information is collected when you visit dailytelescope.com, why it is collected and what choices you have. It is written to meet the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California privacy rules.

Who is responsible

The website dailytelescope.com is operated by The Daily Telescope (“we”, “us”). We decide how the information described here is used. You can reach us about privacy through our contact page.

What we collect

Technical data. Like any website, our hosting servers record basic request data: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type. These logs keep the site secure and working. We do not use them to identify readers.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which articles readers find useful. It records the pages you view, how long you stay, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location at country or city level. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. We see this data only as totals, not as profiles of individual readers.

Messages you send us. If you write to us, we receive your name, email address and the text of your message. We use them only to answer you and to handle your request, such as a correction or a press release.

We do not ask for, and do not knowingly collect, sensitive data such as health or financial details. The site has no user accounts and no comments.

Why we use it (legal basis)

  • Server logs: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Analytics for visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). Without it, no analytics cookies are stored on your device.
  • Analytics for visitors elsewhere: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
  • Messages: to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).

Cookies and similar technologies

Name Provider Purpose Kept for
_ga Google Analytics Tells one browser from another to count visitors 2 years
_ga_9H737QQQMF Google Analytics Keeps the state of a visit (session) 2 years
dt_consent dailytelescope.com (browser storage) Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we do not ask again Until you clear it

We do not use advertising or social media cookies at this time. If we add advertising later, we will update this table and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.

Your consent and how to change it

Visitors from the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland see a banner on their first visit. “Accept” allows analytics cookies. “Reject” keeps them off, and the site works the same either way.

You can change your choice at any time: Cookie settings. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Who receives the data

  • Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC: analytics, as our service provider. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • Our hosting provider: stores the site and its server logs.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

International transfers

Analytics data may be processed in the United States. Google LLC takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, which give your data a level of protection the EU recognizes.

How long we keep it

  • Analytics data: no longer than 14 months, then Google deletes it automatically.
  • Server logs: for the short period set by our hosting provider, usually a few weeks.
  • Messages: as long as needed to handle your request, and no longer than 12 months after it is closed.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • have it corrected or deleted;
  • restrict or object to its use, including use based on our legitimate interests;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what was done before;
  • lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.

If you live in California, you may ask what personal information we have about you and ask us to delete it. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

To use any of these rights, write to us through our contact page. We answer within one month.

Children

The site is meant for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
