Editorial Policy

The Daily Telescope is an independent Los Angeles publication. This page explains how we choose, check and correct what we publish.

Sources and fact-checking

We build every story on primary sources: city and county agencies, courts, transit operators, universities, official statistics and company filings. When we learn about a story from another outlet, we confirm the facts with the original source before publishing and link to it. Every article lists its sources at the end. Figures carry the date they refer to.

Independence and neutrality

We report what happened and what it means for people in Los Angeles. We explain causes through facts, not blame, and we give each side of a public debate in plain words. We name people in connection with a crime only when charges or a conviction are on the public record.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction at the end of the article with the date. Readers can report errors through our contact page.

Advertising and sponsored content

Advertising and sponsored material are always labeled. Sponsors have no say over our news coverage. Links in sponsored material are marked as such for search engines.

Health, money and legal topics

Articles on health, finance and law are general information. They are not medical, financial or legal advice, and we say so on the page.

What we don’t publish

We don’t publish gambling promotions, adult content or promises of easy profit.
