Open Health Network Adds Top Medical, Tech Advisors to Board

Open Health Network, a health technology company in Los Altos, California, has added three members to its board of advisors. The company announced the expansion on March 6, 2018. The new advisors bring scientific, medical and technology experience.

Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett works at Boston Medical Center. There she is vice chair for primary care innovation and transformation in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Marty Kohn consults on health policy and clinical informatics. Before that, he was chief medical scientist at Sentria and IBM Research. Christian Ferri is president and chief executive of BlockStar. That holding company invests in blockchain and initial coin offerings, and it also advises and trains people in the field.

Founder and CEO Tatyana Kanzaveli said the advisors’ support reflects the company’s mission. She also expects them to help the company widen its offerings and grow faster.

Dr. Gergen Barnett said she was excited to join, since the company can bring evidence-based health information to people and communities. In her view, that could improve outcomes, lower costs and reduce health inequities. Dr. Kohn praised the way the platform combines AI algorithms with patient-facing tools, predictive features and back-end data mining.

Ferri has spent four years in blockchain. After that time, he said, he sees the company as the only health care option with end-to-end data exchange, configurable tools, AI and HIPAA compliance. He described it as a blockchain in a box for health care groups. Patients, he added, would gain control over who sees their data.

Open Health Network calls its product a patient experience management platform, since it runs on AI, big data and blockchain. As a result, health care organizations can use it to build personalized chatbots, voice apps and mobile apps quickly. A content management system lets staff change app features and content without programming, while blockchain moves data across the health care system. The platform also includes personalization, gamification and recommendation engines, plus predictive analytics dashboards.

Apps built on it are HIPAA compliant. They also connect in real time with electronic medical records, devices and other systems. Among its users, the company lists the American Heart Association and Cornell University. The University of California San Francisco and the US Department of Health and Human Services also use it.
