Marquis Who’s Who has presented Mutya San Agustin, MD, FAAP, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. The publisher announced the honor from New York on November 7, 2017.

Marquis bills itself as the leading publisher of biographical profiles. It picks the people it profiles for their reference value, which means it weighs position, achievements, visibility and standing in their field.

Dr. San Agustin is a professor of pediatrics, clinical epidemiology and social medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is based at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and has worked there since 1997.

Her earlier career was long and hands-on. She founded and then led ambulatory care medicine at North Central Bronx Hospital for 21 years. She also headed the Montefiore-Morrisania Comprehensive Health Care Center and Montefiore’s Department of Primary Care Medicine.

Much of her work tied medical training to everyday primary care. She set up primary care residency programs, and she helped start an international pediatric fellowship at Albert Einstein.

Her reach goes beyond New York, too. She is the founding president of the Philippine Ambulatory Pediatric Association. She has also consulted for groups such as the international branch of the Department of Health.

She belongs to the American Public Health Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Royal Society of Medicine. In addition, she has been a visiting professor at UCLA, Ben-Gurion University and New York University.

Her past honors include a Bela Schick Award and a Community Leadership Award from the Bronx Community Health Network. In 2007 the Filipina Women’s Network in the U.S. named her a Most Influential Filipina Woman.

Dr. San Agustin earned her medical degree from the University of the Philippines in 1957. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.
