Inspiring Lives Magazine has named the winners of its yearly Empowering Women in Philanthropy Awards, the Pittsburgh publication said on December 4, 2018. The honorees were chosen because their giving centers on charity. A celebration in their honor is set for Friday, December 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Foxtail in Pittsburgh.
This year’s winners are:
- Shevelle McPherson, an attorney, award-winning international speaker and business and legal strategist. She also wrote the number one bestseller Soar! Beyond the Heels of Adversity.
- Dr. Michele Langbein, a tenured professor at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. She is also a model, writer, mother, small business owner and advocate for autism and special needs.
- Stacy Klein, executive director for the Women’s Business Enterprise and Building Hope at 84 Lumber Company, where she leads business development and sales.
- Lynn Doehring, who started Bridge Insurance Group, Inc. in 2013. Her goal was to turn insurance into a relationship rather than a transaction.
- Sara Makin, a two-time bestselling author and owner of the Makin Wellness therapy and coaching centers. She also hosts the TV show Road to Ruin: Journey of the Poppy.
Writer, speaker, activist and feminist organizer Gloria Steinem will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. She is a leader of the women’s rights movement and has long served as a role model for women who support charities. Steinem accepted the award from Editor-in-Chief Dr. Shellie Hipsky at the Robert Morris University Speaker Series.
Akron Wealth Advisors and Empire Investigations are sponsoring the awards. Bob Kresson, owner of Empire Investigations, said his firm supports women and their charities whenever it can. In his line of work, he explained, his team meets women during some of the hardest moments of their lives. So he enjoys seeing them grow more independent once they have the proof they need. He added that women are making big strides in their communities, both at home and abroad, and his company is proud to help.
Other sponsors include Makin Wellness, Bridge Insurance, 84 Lumber, PNC Bank and Mock & Co.
Inspiring Lives Magazine, which hosts the event, is written for women. It focuses on entrepreneurship and personal growth, while also covering the spiritual, intellectual and emotional sides of women’s lives.
