Allen Reinhold Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who

Marquis Who’s Who has given Allen Reinhold its Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. The publisher announced the honor from American Fork, Utah, on January 29, 2018. It describes Reinhold as a leader in art and higher education, citing his long experience, his leadership and his record of success.

Reinhold retired from teaching more than 20 years ago. His last post was as a professor of graphic design at Salt Lake Community College, where he taught from 1985 to 1996. Since 1962, he has also owned Allen Reinhold Art and Design Studio in American Fork, where he works as a freelance artist.

His career began in 1962 as a high school art teacher in Castle Dale, Utah. Later, he directed educational media at Olympus High School in Salt Lake City. He also worked as a production artist at Evans Advertising Agency. After that came a post as art director for the state’s Division of Child and Family Services. Then, from 1969 to 1985, he taught art at USTC. In the 1970s and 1980s, he illustrated books for Bookcraft, including the popular Book of Mormon Stories.

Reinhold was born in Salt Lake City. He earned a BA in art in 1962 and an MA in painting and design in 1963, both from Brigham Young University.

His paintings often show scenes of the American West, drawn from his own life. He works in realism and in an impressionistic watercolor style, while paying close attention to color, light and value. Wildlife, farm animals and people of all ages appear in his work. He showed at the Pageant of the Arts in American Fork from 1980 to 1989 and at the Salt Lake Art Festival. His prizes include Best in Show in American Fork in 1982 and first place at American Fork Steel Days in 1992.

Outside the studio, Reinhold coached for the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America from 1978 to 1991. He spent 15 years with the Boy Scouts of America and sat on the board of Art in American Fork. While in the U.S. Army Reserves, he served a church mission to Germany. Since 2017, he and his wife have been Member Leader Support Missionaries.

Reinhold is married to Linda Anne French. Together they have five children, four stepchildren, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as a foster Navajo son.
