Caltrans starts overnight lane closures and around-the-clock parking limits on SR-2 in Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 25. The work covers Santa Monica Boulevard in West LA and Hollywood, plus Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park, and the SR-2 closures run through Oct. 30.
Crews are replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk as part of a multimodal pavement project. Caltrans says the work should extend pavement life and improve safety. Read more in our Los Angeles guide, and see our note on this week’s SR-91 closures if you also drive south.
SR-2 closures by area
Work runs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday, unless Caltrans notes otherwise. However, parking restrictions apply all day and night from Oct. 25 through Oct. 31.
- West LA: up to two lanes each way on Santa Monica Boulevard between Federal Avenue and Cotner Avenue, with no parking either direction.
- Hollywood: up to one eastbound and two westbound lanes on Santa Monica Boulevard between North Gower Street and Western Avenue, with no parking either direction.
- Echo Park: up to one northbound and two southbound lanes on Glendale Boulevard between Branden Street and Allesandro Street, with no parking either direction.
The Alvarado Street on-ramp from northbound US-101 also closes from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and detours are posted. Business driveways stay open during the closures.
Later work and the bigger project
One more closure follows soon. Southbound Glendale Boulevard near Clifford Street drops to one lane from 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, to 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, for bus pad replacement. Parking is banned in both directions there.
The full project costs about $70.2 million. It has three segments: 1.4 miles of Santa Monica Boulevard from Centinela Avenue to I-405, 2.1 miles of Santa Monica Boulevard from La Brea Avenue to US-101, and 1.5 miles of Alvarado Street and Glendale Boulevard from the US-101 ramps to the SR-2 end in Echo Park. Caltrans has not given an overall end date in the notice we found.
How to plan around SR-2 closures
If you park on these blocks, move your car before Sunday evening, because restricted spaces are enforced. If you drive at night, allow extra time and expect slower traffic near the work zones. Parallel streets such as Sunset Boulevard and Melrose Avenue are options, though they carry their own traffic.
Schedules can shift with weather or operations. Caltrans asks drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Check Caltrans District 7 for updates. Details are as of Oct. 24, 2026, based on the Santa Monica Daily Press report.
