THE UROLOGY CENTER OF COLORADO TO HOST 9TH ANNUAL STATE-OF-THE-ART SYMPOSIUM

The Urology Center of Colorado will host the 9th Annual State-Of-The-Art Symposium, the Denver practice announced on October 11, 2018. It is organizing the event together with Surgical Specialists of Colorado, Denver Heart and Rocky Mountain Gastroenterology. This year’s theme is cancer survivorship, from primary care to oncology and back again.

Each year the four specialty practices bring together experts in one area of medicine. Then they invite primary care providers from across the region to attend.

For 2018 the focus is the path a cancer patient takes. It starts with a primary care visit, passes through several specialties and finally returns to the patient’s own doctor. Donald May, M.D., a urologist at the center, said that putting all of these providers in one room helps each of them see what the patient goes through at every stage. It also shows primary care providers what their patients need once treatment ends, he added.

The program includes experts in breast, prostate and bladder cancer, as well as nutrition and genetics. Steve Cooper, known as the Radioactive Ironman, will also speak. He is a prostate cancer survivor who has set a world record.

Primary care providers who attend get free breakfast and lunch. They can also earn free continuing education credits, including CME/AAFP credit hours, CNE contact hours and COPIC points.

The venue is new this year, because the symposium moves to the Broncos Stadium. During breaks, guests can step out into the stands and look over the football field.

Dr. May noted that the event has been free for primary care providers for nine years running. In his view, the connections doctors make there are just as valuable as the talks.

The Urology Center of Colorado describes itself as the only comprehensive urology center in the Rocky Mountain region that treats all urologic conditions in one place. Its campus includes a urology clinic, radiology, lab, imaging and pathology services, on-site radiation therapy, a urologic cancer center, a research department and an outpatient surgery center.
