Public Storage is inviting fans to get into the April Fools’ Day mood. The Glendale, California, company launched its What a Joke! video contest on March 8, 2018. The winner gets $5,000.
Entrants can tell knock-knock jokes about storage or stage fun, safe pranks. Even so, the videos do not have to be about storage at all, because the judges mostly want to see a lot of creativity.
A few rules apply. Each video must be under two minutes long. All content must be original, although background music is allowed.
To enter, people upload their videos to the contest tab on the Public Storage Facebook page or to a mobile-friendly contest page. Submissions close at the end of the day on March 19, 2018.
After that, the contest moves to a public vote of sorts. Finalists will be named on March 23, and their videos will go up on the company’s YouTube channel. The winners will be the fan favorites with the most views by 9 a.m. Pacific time on March 29, 2018, just days before April Fools’ Day.
This is not the company’s first contest of the kind. Last month, two winners took home cash prizes for poems and videos about self-storage and getting organized. The company is also asking people to share the new contest widely.
Public Storage started in 1972 with a single self-storage building in Southern California. Today it runs more than 2,386 locations across the United States, which makes it the largest self-storage company in the business. It is a member of the S&P 500. Because it operates as a real estate investment trust, it pays out much of its revenue as dividends.
