Houstonia Magazine Honors Local Gastroenterologist for the 4th Consecutive Year

Dr. Gurunath Reddy has received a Top Docs award from Houstonia Magazine for the fourth year in a row. He is the founding gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants, PA.

Houstonia picks its honorees through a peer survey, in which doctors rate other doctors. This year’s list includes 580 Houston-area physicians, and Reddy is one of only 17 gastroenterologists on it.

Besides running his practice, Reddy is active on many boards, associations, research councils and international health groups. He said he was deeply honored by the trust of his peers. He plans to keep working with the wider medical community, because every patient deserves the highest standard of care. In his view, Houston is a place where people can find some of the best doctors in the world, and he is proud to be counted among them.

Reddy is known worldwide as an expert in liver disease, GI disorders and endoscopy. Along with Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants, PA, he founded North Houston Endoscopy and Surgery. He also launched Continental Hospitals in Hyderabad, India, since he wanted to bring top-level care to his home town. Just one year after opening, the hospital began winning major awards and accreditations.

Reddy said he simply stays busy and does not rest on his laurels. The awards are nice, he added, but there is always more work to do.

Reddy, MD, FACP, FACG, FASGE, AGAF, is also known for his clinical judgment and his teaching. He has led policy and quality improvement work across the field. H Texas Magazine named him one of Houston’s top doctors from 2006 to 2017, while Houstonia did so from 2013 to 2017. In 2006, the Consumer’s Research Council listed him among America’s Top Doctors.

He has chaired committees on Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Continuing Medical Education, Endoscopy, and Medical Staff Bylaws. Both Houston Northwest Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Northeast elected him Chief of Staff, and he served on the boards of both hospitals. He is a founding board member of Kingwood Medical Center (HCA) and Icon Hospital.

His board work also includes the Texas Gulf Coast Gastrointestinal Society and the advisory board of the Southeast Chapter of the American Liver Foundation. He has served as president of the Harris County Medical Society and of the Houston Academy of Medicine. In addition, he chaired the Board of Medical Legislation of the HCMS and the Hospital Council of Chiefs of Staff.
