Depression2Extinction, known as d2e, has named ElliptiGO, Inc. as a corporate partner. The Austin, Texas, non-profit works to reduce the stigma around depression and anxiety disorders. ElliptiGO is the San Diego company that created the world’s first elliptical bicycle. Together the two partners plan to promote injury-free movement.
The partnership grew out of an injury. Jeff Jackson, known as JJ, is the founder and executive director of d2e. Before his HURT 100 race, he faced a tibial stress fracture that could have ended his race. ElliptiGO quickly provided a bike so he could rehab and keep training. Jackson praised the company’s team and said the bike may be the best piece of equipment he has used. He also recommended it for people with chronic knee, back or hip injuries.
Bryce Whiting is vice president of sales and marketing at ElliptiGO. He said the company wanted to help once it heard about the injury and the purpose behind the race. Endurance athletes often end up sidelined, he noted, and the bike helps keep them strong and healthy. The mission of d2e on stigma also gave the company another reason to get involved. Whiting said ElliptiGO is proud to support the group.
The non-profit hopes to sign more corporate partners in 2018 to advance its focus on mindfulness, movement and human connection.
The group was founded in early 2017 and has a global reach. Its work centers on human connection and the message Your Story Matters. In 2018, it plans to hold community events, races, retreats and recovery programs.
ElliptiGO’s bikes combine elements of running, cycling and elliptical training. Since they deliver a cardio workout without impact on the joints, they suit everyone from weekend exercisers to elite athletes. Specialty running, cycling and fitness retailers sell the bikes nationwide. They are also available at the company’s headquarters outside San Diego.
