Bunker Technologies, a San Francisco insurance tech startup, has opened a second office in Madison, Wisconsin. The company picked Madison because many leading insurers are based there. The city also offers a high standard of living.
The search started in late 2016, when Bunker went looking for a broker who knew the Madison market well. Two trusted friends of CEO and Co-Founder Chad Nitschke recommended Matt Apter, a Managing Principal at Cresa Madison. Apter then helped steer the hunt for a location.
In the end, the team chose an office on State Street. The space could be designed around the culture of the Bunker team. So it was remodeled over the following months, and it opened in December 2017.
Nitschke said Madison regularly ranks high for its well-educated workforce and quality of life. As a venture-backed tech company from San Francisco, Bunker is glad to join the community, he said. He also plans to hire more software engineers for the new office. Sales, insurance and other key roles are on the list as well.
Bunker launched in 2016 to change how small businesses buy insurance. Through its subsidiary Bunker Protect, Inc., it is a licensed digital insurance broker in all 50 states. It also works with leading carriers on new insurance products. Since coverage is built into the contracting and compliance process, a business gets the right policy exactly when it needs it.
Cresa advised Bunker on the move. It calls itself the world’s largest corporate real estate advisory firm working only for tenants. Because it never represents developers or landlords, the firm says it avoids conflicts of interest. It offers integrated real estate and project services for jobs of any size.
