Franklin Avenue Lane Closure in Hollywood Runs Nov. 2 to Dec. 5

Caltrans starts a Franklin Avenue lane closure in Hollywood on Nov. 2 and keeps it in place through Dec. 5. Eastbound Franklin drops to three lanes between Vine Street and Argyle Avenue, and the sidewalk on that stretch closes to pedestrians.

The work sits at the Argyle-Franklin Undercrossing, part of a U.S. 101 bridge rehabilitation project. Caltrans announced the schedule on Oct. 23, 2026, according to its District 7 notice.

What the Franklin Avenue lane closure changes

The first step is overnight work from Nov. 2 into Nov. 3, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Crews install K-rail barriers, so eastbound Franklin narrows to two lanes during those hours.

After that, the three-lane setup stays until Dec. 5. Drivers heading east from Vine Street toward Argyle Avenue should expect slower traffic, especially at rush hour. Caltrans advises people to allow extra travel time and to drive with caution.

That said, the schedule can shift. Caltrans says dates, times and the number of closures may change because of weather or construction operations.

Pedestrian detour

People on foot cannot use the Franklin sidewalk in the work zone. Instead, eastbound pedestrians turn south onto Vine Street and then continue east on Yucca Street. Westbound pedestrians turn south onto Argyle Avenue and then continue west on Yucca Street.

Signs and K-rail mark the work zone, so the detour is easy to follow in daylight. After dark, however, plan a little extra time.

Why the bridges are getting work

The project costs $20.8 million. It covers the Argyle-Franklin Undercrossing and the Gower Street off-ramp bridges on U.S. 101, plus the Big Tujunga Wash bridge on I-210. Crews add seismic retrofits, resurface bridge decks and rebuild slabs and curb ramps. Truesdell Corporation of California is the contractor.

Nearby residents and businesses may hear noise and feel vibration, and some dust is likely. Caltrans also lists a separate paving project in the Cahuenga Pass with overnight closures on U.S. 101 from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30; see our earlier post on overnight closures on the 101 and 91 for how those notices work.
