When Dr. Nettles graduated from medical school in 2000, his hair had already started thinning. Observing that his father was bald and his 2 older brothers had also thinned before balding, Dr. Nettles was motivated to study hair loss and did so from a genetic, biochemical perspective. That single shift in thinking made all the difference: “We each get 100 trillion CELLS, but the CELLS don’t have eyes and ears. So how do they communicate? I reasoned that they communicate the same way trees communicate with the environment: BIOCHEMICALS.” With the advanced microscopy techniques available to them, most scientists chose to research stem cells and genetics. However, Dr. Nettles decided to instead focus on the biochemistry of cell-to-cell connection, a field now known as epigenetics.
Through various internships and fellowships, Dr. nettles’ tenacity and vision would ultimately pay off. Upon deducing the biochemical mechanism that explains the root of hair loss and hair growth, he was able to formulate a medical solution known as Stop & Regrow. “The body consists of 100 trillion cells undergoing 500 quadtrillion biochemical reactions every second,” said Dr. Nettles. “For each individual, there is an optimal biochemical balance, and therefore there are optimal hormonal levels that individuals should strive for.”
