As voting in the largest business and professional awards program in the history of Long Island nears the 1,000,000 votes cast mark, SightMD has been nominated in a record four categories in this year’s ‘Best of L.I. 2018’ 13th annual event, according to leading cataract and refractive surgeon Jeffrey Martin, MD, Chief Executive Officer of SightMD.

SightMD joins a select number of local doctors, medical professionals, businesses and people who have been nominated for multiple awards in the Health & Wellness category. These include: Best LASIK Surgery Practice; Best Ophthalmologist; and Best Audiologist. Additionally, Samuel Baharestani, MD is nominated for Best Cosmetic Surgeon. The ‘Best of L.I. 2017’ event is sponsored by

“As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, the ‘Best of Long Island’ contest is one of the most prestigious business and professional awards programs on Long Island because it involves the people who work and live right here in our local neighborhoods,” said Dr. Martin. “The people who vote in the ‘Best of Long Island’ competition have a unique understanding of our practice and our doctors because many of us grew up on Long Island. We’ve been fortunate that the people of Long Island have recognized our efforts and not only nominated us during the past several years, but allowed us to win ‘Best Of Long Island’ in numerous categories. To be nominated once again for an unprecedented four categories is something we are all very proud of here at SightMD.”

Although the voting does not end until December 15, 2017, more than 780,000 votes have already been cast. Of the 58,499 nominations made in this year’s event, only the top few from each category advance to the official ballot. In each category, there are no 2nd or 3rd place finishers. Only the person or practice receiving the largest number of votes is declared the winner.

In the past, doctors from SightMD have won ‘Best of Long Island’ for Best LASIK Surgeon, Best Ophthalmology Practice, Best Audiologist and Best Eye Care Provider. The ‘Best of Long Island’ involves more than 1 million people across Long Island who vote each year. This year’s participation by voters is expected to be another record turnout. The Best of Long Island contest is conducted each year by the Long Island Press newspaper and voting runs from October 1st to December 15th, a 75-day voting window in which everyone can vote for their favorite physician, business person, local store or business they feel should hold a Best of Long Island title.

“Having the local residents of Long Island include me in the voting for Best Cosmetic Surgeon is truly an honor,” said Dr. Baharestani. “I was very fortunate to have won the category in the past and I am humbled by my nomination again this year. I look forward to earning the continued respect of the public and sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve the cosmetic needs of my friends, neighbors and local residents of Long Island.”

With 23 practice locations across the greater Long Island area – and now expanding into the city – the growing SightMD team of physicians and specially trained staff are dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of patient care. “Every year that we are nominated by patients and friends of the practice, it serves as quiet reinforcement that our efforts to improve quality care have not gone unnoticed,” said Dr. Martin.

Brad grew up in a small town in northern Iowa. He studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married his wife one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children.
