When thousands of people were displaced by the North Bay fires in October, Novato luxury linen designer Bella Notte Linens wanted to offer more than basic staples to help people get by.
“We heard about how local chefs were bringing gourmet food to first responders and to people at shelters, which was so inspiring,” said Melissa Linn, Operations Manager of Bella Notte Linens. “We wanted to do something similar and realized we could add luxury and beauty to the new homes of people displaced by the fires.”
Bella Notte donated more than $160,000 of washable luxury bedspreads, blankets, sheets and pillowcases to organizations distributing supplies to fire victims. Organizations receiving the linens included the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Foundation, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Goodwill Industries of Redwood Empire, 12 Step Knights, the Waves of Compassion Foundation, the Sonoma County Family YMCA, and Drs. Martin and Dorothy Spatz Charitable Foundation.
“The linens brought a ray of sunshine to our ‘short-term’ housing,” one family said upon receiving their bedding. “They helped us turn this house into a comfy home.”
“Thank you so much for your generous donation of sheets, blankets, and pillowcases,” another recipient said. “They are so beautiful and go a long way towards making our current space feel like home, as much as possible.”
“We’re hoping others will see these stories and continue to support these families throughout their rebuilding process,” Linn said. “We’d love to see other businesses and individuals donate goods and services that help families create beautiful new homes, as opposed to just getting by.”
