Jody Samuels was a featured speaker at the Annual Thought Leaders Conference Business Expert Forum at the Harvard Faculty Club. These thought leaders include CEOs, dignitaries, professionals and best-selling authors from around the world. Jody is a professional trader, trader’s coach, and author.
Samuels soon realized from her institutional trading background, that aspiring traders lacked the guidance to graduate from the “Technical Trader’s Trap” to be able to run their own successful trading businesses.
Samuels’ father taught her that moderation is the key to a well-balanced life. “Every time I made a choice, I thought about my dad,” she said.
Thrust into the volatile world of trading, she learned that although she couldn’t control how the markets reacted to the up and down swings, she had to learn how to moderate her reactions to losing and making money from one second to the next.
“I had to learn about balancing; fear on one side and greed on the other,” Samuels said.
Finding balance in her trading career and personal life became her quest. Eventually, she left institutional trading and set up her own shop. “Instead of creating discipline, I created habits,” she said.
This realization served as her inspiration to write the highly acclaimed book “The Trader’s Pendulum: The 10 Habits of Highly Successful Traders.”
“I finally learned how to embrace change and risk in the markets and to use it to my advantage and to learn how to ride the trader’s pendulum,” Samuels said. “Trading isn’t about becoming a master trader overnight,” she said. “It’s about mastering one daily habit at a time.
“In order to be a successful trader you need to have clear goals and to develop a system of habits. If there is one thing that I want you to learn is the power of consistent daily habits.”
