Dong-Hoon Yi, EngD, Recognized for Achievements in Robotics Technology

    SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, December 19, 2017 — Dong-Hoon Yi, EngD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Specializing in robotics technology, Dr. Yi serves LG Electronics as a professional research engineer with the H&A Smart Solution BD and Life Robot PMO. In this position, he has assisted in the development of an Afocal Optical Flow Sensor for reducing vertical height sensitivity in indoor robot localization and navigation. Dr. Yi is also noted for researching localization in low luminance, slippery indoor environments using AOFS, and image processing. His team was responsible for creating a robotic vacuum cleaner that achieved first place in the domestic market within three months of its launch, as well as third place in the world just two years after it was exported.

Since the inception of his career, Dr. Yi has found great joy in building and researching robots. In 2010, he was selected as the recipient of the LG R&D Award for the development of robotic vacuum cleaner driving technology, which he received from the CEO of LG Electronics. Dr. Yi also received the R&D Field Gold Prize from the CEO of the LG Home Appliance Company in 2012. In recognition of his contributions to the service robot field, he was recently honored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the National Academy of Engineering of Korea.

As Dr. Yi moves forward with his career, he plans to continue serving as a research fellow in the area of robotics with LG Electronics. He holds a Doctor of Engineering from Seoul National University, as well as a Six Sigma Black Belt and certification by the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB). Dr. Yi previously served in the Republic of Korea Army from 1994 to 1996.
