It’s a pretty safe bet that anyone lying on a hospital stretcher is already in distress, if not discomfort. Fortunately, two inventors from New York, N.Y., who are also hospital employees involved with patients on stretchers, are pursuing an idea that will raise the comfort level for these patients to a new high.

They developed the PLACID-TECH to enhance comfort for patients on stretchers. As such, it provides more room for larger patients and keeps needed medical equipment easily accessible. At the same time, it eliminates heavy lifting reducing physical strain on hospital staff members. Furthermore, it increases maneuverability in confined areas. Other appealing features include convenience, effectiveness and an affordable price. In addition, it is durable, practical and easy to use.

The inventors’ professional experience inspired the idea. “We have worked in hospitals for 20 years and found that during that time the size and weight of the average patient has continued to increase and patients are spending longer time periods on stretchers,” one of them said. “Therefore, we felt stretchers should be modified to enhance patient comfort.”

The original design was submitted to the Manhattan office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
