OAKDALE, N.Y., December 21, 2017 – With over 20 years of expertise and leadership, Bonnie Cappello has experienced a wide array of success as a CPA. Dedicated and highly analytical, Cappello has also spent twelve of those years in the healthcare industry.
Cappello has been a resourceful problem solver with the ability to work for complicated companies with financial troubles. She then accomplishes a quick economic turnaround, focusing on particular aspects. Those aspects are team building, financial controls, and policy development.
Some of her career highlights in the financial sector are leading growth of a public accounting firm and secured a position as Partner before selling the CPA firm. Also, Cappello rebuilt a billing department, dramatically increasing collections and profits all while decreasing expenses. Finally, she has gained extensive knowledge within all aspects of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commerical Insurance.
It's because of my strong education and professional activities that I was able to enjoy a strong career.
Because of these qualifications, Cappello has held high positions in several primary healthcare practices.
Chief Financial Officer, Neulife Neurological Rehabilitation Services
The rehab clinic is a 54-bed residential facility for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries in Mt. Dora, Florida. As CFO, Cappello directed team members within financial operations, including accounting and billing, for the four-year-old startup company. She also prepared expansion models, projections, and cash requirement reports for potential private equity investors.
Practice Administrator, Florida Retina Institute
This Jacksonville, Florida business is an ophthalmology practice specializing in Vitro-Retinal Disease and Surgery, operating in 18 locations.
Cappello managed business operations, including staffing, patient/doctor scheduling, and front desk administration. She also directed financial activities and improved processes in the billing offices.
“While there, I brought the company into compliance with the Medicare Meaningful Use requirements related to Electronic Health Records,” explains Cappello. “I was also able to increase Medicare revenue by almost $700,000 during my tenure there.”
Cappello also managed shareholder buyouts including contract review, appraisal coordination, data gathering, and attorney communications. She also saved $375 thousand in corrections in contracts and valuation issues related to the buyout.
Chief Financial Officer, Florida Eye Clinic
As CFO of the sizeable multi-location ophthalmology practice, she led the accounting and business offices. This leadership included accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, collections, and medical billing. She also established proper accounting procedures for all 14 locations.
Cappello was able to increase cash flow by 15-percent and lowered outstanding account receivables from $8 million to $2 million with fewer write-offs.
“While CFO, I used my expertise to implement new practice management and billing programs,” says Cappello. “This increased efficiency and collections by 15-percent. Also, by reducing the billing staff, $300,000 became saved by the company.”
The accolades within these companies are just the start when boosting Cappello's career. By taking control of the company's financial situation, she turned them into profitable practices quickly.
“By cutting costs and taking a long look at the financial forecast of the company, these companies were able to recover,” adds Cappello. “Each of these companies was turning profits when I departed. It's a humbling feeling turning a company in a short amount of time.”
Because of Cappello's strong educational background, she developed the necessary traits to become successful. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Accounting at Orlando College. Then, she received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at Dowling College in New York.
