NEW YORK November 10, 2017
BAE Systems stands with veterans making community impact this Veterans Day as part of its three-year commitment to veterans nonprofit The Mission Continues. Since 2015, BAE Systems has been empowering The Mission Continues operations across the country that engage veteran volunteers every day to have deep impact on critical challenges facing underserved communities. Recent investments by the company enable the organization to sustain long-term efforts to support veterans in their reintegration through community Service Platoons, Fellowships, leadership summits and national service campaigns including the 2017 Veterans Day campaign.
As the lead sponsor for this year’s Mission Continues' Veterans Day campaign, BAE Systems is supporting more than 30 service projects nationwide where veterans and local volunteers will come together in service to create positive impact in their communities. Throughout the holiday weekend, veteran-led Service Platoon projects will be held in cities such as Miami, FL; Boston, MA; St Louis, MO; Minneapolis, MN; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, MD; Honolulu, HI; San Diego, CA; and Houston, TX, to name a few.
The service projects revolve around the restoration and beautification of community spaces in need of assistance. In Washington, D.C., The Mission Continues volunteers along with The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs and community members will be serving at the Langston Community Center. Volunteers will build benches, paint the facilities, organize the clothing donation room, and construct trash receptacles. In Orlando, The Mission Continues 1st and 2nd Platoons are teaming up with Home Builders Institute and Second Harvest Food Bank to build mobile food pantries for local schools in need of extra food storage space, due to an influx of new students from Puerto Rico displaced by Hurricane Maria.
The 2017 Veterans Day campaign is just one of many initiatives led by The Mission Continues that empower veterans to continue serving at home by mobilizing together and solving challenges specific to their communities. Veterans participate in operations by serving with The Mission Continues in a variety of capacities, leading to an increase in personal growth through service. These volunteer opportunities are contributing to veteran-led community impact and a greater sense of connection among veterans.
