Empowering people to make healthy lifestyle choices is a shared goal of Accesa Labs and the YMCA.
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. November 16, 2017
Accesa Labs has partnered with the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program which is supported by the Torrance Memorial Medical Center to provide discounted Hemoglobin A1c tests in support of Diabetes Awareness Month. Considered a highly effective screening for pre-diabetes, the test can be scheduled through Accesa Labs website and is available to YMCA members for $23 (regular $54) from November 1st to 30th, as part of the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program.
“Empowering people to make healthy lifestyle choices is a shared goal of Accesa Labs and the YMCA,” says Matt Williamson, co-founder of Accesa Labs. “The Hemoglobin A1c test is just one of many lab tests Accesa Labs offers. In our mission to make preventative measures like this easier and more accessible to consumers, we can’t imagine a more kindred organization to partner with than the YMCA.”
“Diabetes effects 1 in 10 Los Angeles County residents and is the leading cause of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and nerve disease,” explains Jamisson Costa, Regional Director of YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program. “When caught early, pre-diabetes symptoms can be reversed through lifestyle changes like diet and regular exercise. Detection is key, however, because 9 out of 10 people who are pre-diabetic are unaware. This is why the Hemoglobin A1c test is so important.”
The Hemoglobin A1c is considered a highly effective screening test for diabetes, as it measures average blood glucose over the course of months. No fasting is required prior to the test. Test results between 5.7% and 6.4% may indicate a patient is at-risk for being pre-diabetic.
Signing up for the test is hassle-free on Accesa Labs’ website and the test can be performed at one of Quest Diagnostics convenient lab locations. To simplify the testing process, a doctor-approved lab order and lab fees are included in all Accesa Labs orders, with no advance office visits required. Hemoglobin A1c results are typically available electronically within 2 business days.
