NIST 800-171 Express Compliance Package Helps Small and Mid-Sized Government Contractors Achieve Compliance

RESTON, VA – 10-10-2017 (Press Release Jet) — SecureIT announces the NIST 800-171 Express Compliance Package designed to assist small and mid-sized companies meet their information security obligations as contractors to United States Federal agencies.  With only three months left before the December 31, 2017 deadline for compliance, SecureIT’s NIST 800-171 Express Compliance Package comes at the right time to help contractors implement the appropriate controls for transmitting and storing controlled unclassified information (CUI).

CUI is information created by, or on behalf of, the government that is unclassified but needs safeguarding in both electronic and physical forms. Examples of CUI include: engineering drawings and related lists, product specifications, procurement and acquisition information, catalog item identifications, and any information originating from the U.S. government’s System for Award Management (SAM).

While larger Federal contractors typically have IT resources to devote to compliance projects, small to midsize contractors may struggle to determine how 800-171 affects them, and how to cost-effectively implement controls and develop documentation needed for compliance. Others may be working toward compliance, but find that their efforts are falling short as the December 2017 deadline looms. Failure to comply with 800-171 jeopardizes existing and future Civilian and DoD contracts.

SecureIT offers small and midsize businesses a range of resources for achieving compliance. An eBook titled “5 Preparation Steps for 800-171 Compliance” outlines critical steps to success, helping federal contractors understand the scope of 800-171 requirements and determine next steps. The 800-171 Express Compliance Package from SecureIT provides assessment, advisory and remediation expertise to help clients reduce disruption to their business while hitting their target for compliance.

“SecureIT’s experts were able to quickly get their arms around our business, understand our compliance requirements, and deliver subject matter expertise quickly. The company’s model of providing advisory, as well as specific tactical expertise where needed allowed us to meet our cyber and compliance obligations without undue disruption to existing projects and operations,” said Kelli Schnieder, COO of Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP).

“SecureIT provides our small and midsize government contractor clients the security and compliance expertise they require,” said SecureIT President and CEO, David Trout. “Our Express Compliance Package can be customized to provide the right level of support that each client needs, from  documentation support to technical security testing.  With our collaboration and advisory support, we’re able to help clients achieve NIST 800-171 compliance in a matter of weeks.”

In addition to the “5 Preparation Steps for 800-171 Compliance” eBook, SecureIT has produced an 800-171 Infographic that provides government contractors with a quick summary of key 800-171 compliance facts and planning recommendations.

Brad grew up in a small town in northern Iowa. He studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married his wife one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children.
