NASHVILLE, TN, March 14, 2018 — Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James Martin, DDS, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Martin celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Martin recently retired as the owner of Martin Dental in 2014, having been in practice since 1980. In addition, he has served as a professor and chair, Department of Dental Public Health, at Meharry Medical College. Previously, he worked as a coordinator of the Dental Component Center for Health Care Research from 1975 to 1977, director of primary dental service from 1973 to 1975, and dental director of children and youth from 1967 to 1973.
Inspired to go into dentistry by a family of health care professionals, particularly a brother-in-law who was also a dentist, Dr. Martin began his career as a student at Loras College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1959. He went on to complete a Master of Science with Tennessee State University in 1960, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery with Meharry Medical College in 1966. He then studied at the University of Michigan, earning a Master of Public Health in 1975, before returning to Loras College for a Doctor of Letters in 1982.
Throughout his career, Dr. Martin has been recognized for his contributions, including with a Meritorious Service Award from the Academy of Oral Medicine. He considers one of the highlights of his career to be being invited as a commencement speaker and member of the board of regents for his alma mater, Loras College. However, he is most proud of his work regarding leukoedema, for which he is internationally renowned to have been the first to discover this condition in children. Dr. Martin credits his success to dedication, patience, humility and remaining steadfast with relation to his aspirations.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, James Martin, DDS, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
