Her key responsibilities for Rush Medical College include caring for critically ill newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit, providing antenatal consultation to pregnant women with pregnancies affected by fetal anomalies through Rushâ€™s Fetal and Neonatal Medicine Center, and training future health care professionals. Dr. Bowkerâ€™s responsibilities as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Rush include teaching physicians-in-training and medical students studying pediatrics regarding the art and science of caring for critically ill newborns and premature infants.The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated â€œChoosing Dr. Bowker for this honor was an easy decision for our panel to make. After graduating first in her high school class, she went on to Brown University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with Departmental Honors in Biomedical Ethics in 2004. Dr. Bowker went on to complete her medical training at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons where she received her Doctorate of Medicine degree in 2009. In 2012 Dr. Bowker completed a Pediatric Residency training program at Columbia University Medical Centerâ€™s Morgan Stanley Childrenâ€™s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian. In 2016 she completed a Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Northwestern Universityâ€™s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL.Dr. Bowker remains active in her community and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. In 2008 she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from Columbia University. In 2009 she was the recipient of the Glasgow-Rubin Achievement Award from the American Medical Womenâ€™s Association, which is awarded to women graduating in the top 10 percent of their medical school class. In 2014 she was inducted into the International Womenâ€™s Leadership Association. While at Northwestern University she was the recipient of the First and Third Year Fellowâ€™s Basic and Translational Research Prize from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine for her work investigating the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis, a devastating disease affecting premature infants. She has received additional recognition for her contributions to pediatric research including receiving the Frederic M. Kenney Award for Outstanding Abstract Presentation by a Fellow at the Midwest Society for Pediatric Research Annual Meeting and the SPR Travel Award to Enhance Diversity in the Research Workforce, in recognition of achievements in Pediatric Research, at the 2017 Annual Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting in San Francisco, CA. For 2017 she was selected as â€œTop Neonatologist of the Yearâ€� by the International Association of Top Professionals and for 2018 is being considered to have a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine.Looking back, Dr. Bowker attributes her success to her training, perseverance, and incredible mentors she has had along the way.
