Biscom, a leading provider of enterprise fax and secure document delivery solutions, announced the release of the FAXCOM for Epic Integration. The new, integration simplifies faxing from within Epic, providing capabilities that improve productivity, increase the security of patient information, and enhance faxing functionality.
Speed and efficiency in healthcare can lead to better patient outcomes and a better overall healthcare experience. Healthcare has moved towards systems like electronic medical records to meet this demand. Throughout this, fax has remained a major part of healthcare communication, passing critical information including patient data, prescriptions, referrals, and authorizations. By developing an integration that can capture basic patient data from an EMR and attach it to a fax, Biscom’s FAXCOM Integration provides the power to keep communications moving and get the right information to the right provider.
“This new FAXCOM Integration makes it much easier to manage faxing in an Epic environment, said David Klein, CEO of Instant InfoSystems. “The robust features for electronic faxing such as send, receive, check status, and resend that Biscom offers really streamlines the process, saving healthcare providers time and improving productivity.
“Healthcare organizations are always looking to improve and speed up processes in their electronic medical record systems, said Bill Ho, CEO of Biscom. “With this new ability to capture and manage additional patient data through the new Epic integration with Biscom’s fax solution, we’re able to provide advanced searching and filtering on patients, resulting in huge time savings. And time savings in the healthcare world ultimately translates into better patient care.
The FAXCOM for Epic Integration improves on previous fax integrations by offering the ability to search and filter on patient name, medical record number, department, and several other pieces of metadata.
With the Biscom integration, Epic attaches Patient Record metadata to each sent fax allowing users to more easily find faxes using keywords from the Patient Record. Most importantly, it saves hospitals and IT teams time and effort by improving the process for finding and resending failed faxes. Now when a fax is not received, users can easily determine the cause, find the original fax file, and quickly resend it, automatically updating the Patient Record in the EMR.
Along with the fax functionality in the EMR, this new integration also provides access to the powerful FAXCOM solution. FAXCOM provides the complete functionality of Biscom’s enterprise fax capabilities that can form the faxing platform for an entire healthcare organization, including fax-to-email, workflows, and production fax capabilities.
The National Institutes of Health, Cedars-Sinai, Dana Farber, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital rely on Biscom solutions for their enterprise faxing and secure document delivery needs. Biscom’s fax solutions offer full encryption, workflow, dashboards, reporting, and a robust set of APIs.
